A skill that sweeps through packs can feel painfully slow against an endgame boss. Before spending POE 2 Orbs on another upgrade, find out whether the problem is damage scaling, an unreliable setup, or too little time spent attacking. A disappointing encounter does not automatically mean your character needs rebuilding. Often, one targeted adjustment is more useful than replacing an entire build.
Measure What Happens During the Fight
Choose a repeatable encounter and watch your damage during safe attack windows. Compare attempts under similar conditions, keeping equipment and defensive choices unchanged. Record how quickly you reach a recognizable phase rather than relying entirely on the skill panel.
Notice why attacks stop. Running out of resources, repositioning excessively, or repeatedly refreshing a secondary effect can all reduce practical damage. If the skill performs well while you stand still but struggles during movement, the immediate problem may be delivery rather than raw power.
Make Every Support Earn Its Place
Review supports according to what the main skill actually does against one enemy. A choice that improves coverage may contribute little during a boss encounter. Where compatible options exist, test supports that strengthen the relevant damage type, improve attack reliability, or reward conditions you can consistently maintain.
Read each description carefully, including its restrictions and tradeoffs. A stronger individual hit is not necessarily an improvement if it makes the skill too slow for short openings. Change one support at a time, then repeat your test. Keep the option that improves the encounter, not merely the displayed number.
Build a Rotation You Can Sustain
Secondary skills should help your main attack rather than compete with it for attention. If your setup offers applicable exposure, resistance reduction, or another damage amplifier, check its requirements and duration. An effect that rarely activates is a poor foundation for judging your expected damage.
Keep the sequence manageable: establish the useful effect, attack during the opening, and refresh only when necessary. Avoid stacking preparation steps that consume the whole damage window. Against a mobile boss, a shorter rotation you execute reliably can outperform a complicated sequence that repeatedly breaks down.
Upgrade the Limiting Factor
Separate missing equipment from a mismatched skill setup. Identify the statistics your chosen skill actually benefits from, then inspect whether your weapon and other items provide them. An expensive item with impressive but irrelevant modifiers may accomplish less than a modest, focused replacement.
Set a specific goal for each purchase: stronger scaling, steadier resource use, or enough survivability to keep attacking.
Improve one weakness at a time and retest before committing further resources. If you consider cheap POE 2 Exalted Orbs, first define the upgrade they would support; a clear plan matters more than another speculative purchase.
