With the new Genesis Tree system, you can skip some of the usual frustrating RNG and actually plan your craft. The first step is finding the right base. That means farming high item level (iLvl 84+) fractured wands with good base crit chance – usually Prophecy or Opal Wands are the go-to picks. A fractured mod stays locked on the item forever, so landing one is like winning half the battle already. If you’re lucky enough to get a fractured +1 to all Spell Skill Gems, a juicy flat Spell Damage, or even a specific +1 to Spell Skill Gems, you have the strongest starting point you could ask for. Seriously, it’s the foundation that makes all the later steps worth the grind, and if you want to cut down farming time, checking sites like PoE 1 Currency for options can save a headache.
From here, it’s down to what your build actually needs. If your skill scales hard off gem levels – think Spark, minions, or anything that stacks levels – then essence spamming is the way to go. Grab your fractured wand and start feeding it Essences; Woe for Spell Damage is solid, Torment for Lightning Damage if your build’s more specific. The point isn’t always to keep the Essence mod but to keep rolling until you hit three killer suffixes like Cast Speed, Crit Chance, or Crit Multi, plus one open prefix. Once you’ve got that locked in, the “Suffixes Cannot be Changed” craft keeps those suffixes safe while you slam a Veiled Chaos Orb or Aisling Intervention to hit a veiled prefix. If the unveil gods are kind, you grab your second +1 to all Spell Skill Gems and you’re holding a nasty +2 wand. Yeah, it’s pricey, but it’s the most straight-up reliable route to top-tier DPS.
If gem levels aren’t a big deal for you and what you’re after is raw damage and faster cast times, start differently – find a wand with a fractured T1 Spell Damage prefix. That locks in your core damage and frees you to chase other mods. Fossil crafting works great here; Aetheric, Corroded, and Frigid can help target rolls. Or just go straight for Veiled Chaos Orbs right away and hope for one of those crazy hybrid mods like % Spell Damage / Gain % of Non-Chaos Damage as Extra Chaos Damage or the crit-and-damage combo stats. Once you’ve got something tasty unveiled, bench craft whatever you’re missing – maybe big Cast Speed or a solid Damage over Time Multiplier.
Whichever road you take, one thing’s guaranteed – you’ll burn through a lot of currency before it’s done. The Genesis Tree makes the start way more predictable, but getting that dream wand still eats a pile of Divines, Essences, and patience. For players who don’t wanna spend days on raw farming, it’s not unusual to buy PoE 1 Currency and cut straight to the fun part of the craft.
